it really isn't that hard. https://magicmirror.builders
- a spare tv/monitor
- spare server.
magicmirror is an electron-based app that basically runs in "kiosk-mode" that runs the display 24/7. i've set it up on this 2012 mac mini running ubuntu, and it's performing just fine. maybe somewhat sub-optimally, but idc /shrug.
the modules i use:
- ImmichTileSlideshow
- i've actually forked my own version, just so i could add the ability to change between Immich configs based on time range / notifications
- CalendarExt3
- this calendar works surprisingly well with the public-secret calendar links with no other access required. by public-secret i mean the links you can find in your GCal settings
- System Temp
- Pages & Page Indicator
- Year Progress
- Flip Clock
- Keypress Events
- Markdown
i was using quote of the day but it gave me a dnald trmp quote so i removed it.
Immich?
immich is a self-hosted photo server, it's basically Google photos or iCloud but ... self-hosted. i didn't have any specific photo server setup, so it was easy to get everything in there. most people already have their photos setup in their gphotos or icloud so i don't think it'll work for everyone if you want updated photos.
